ACN Verification
ACN verification confirms that an Australian Company Number is valid and matches a company registered with ASIC, so you can be sure the entity legally exists.
What does ACN verification check?
An ACN is a 9-digit number ASIC issues to every registered Australian company. Verifying it confirms the number is valid and maps to a real company on the ASIC register, along with that company’s current status and registered name. Where an ABN covers all business types including sole traders and trusts, an ACN is specific to incorporated companies, so it tells you an entity is a properly constituted company rather than just a registered business. A concrete example: a supplier presents as “Meridian Construction Pty Ltd”. An ACN check shows the number belongs to a company that was deregistered, a strong reason not to release payment.
Why it matters for Australian finance teams
Paying a company that has been deregistered, or one whose name does not match the ACN on file, exposes a finance team to fake invoices and ghost vendors. For accounts payable, an ACN check is a quick way to confirm a corporate supplier legally exists and is current before it is added to the vendor master file or paid. It also supports business identification under AML/CTF due diligence overseen by AUSTRAC.
How ezyshield helps
ezyshield confirms the person, the business via ABN and ASIC records, and bank account ownership before money moves, so a company’s registration is checked and linked to the account receiving funds. If details change, any change triggers re-verification, and every check is written to an append-only audit trail, logged and never edited or deleted.
